Jan 5, 2008. The 21st century is filled with great tech gadgets. Get these for your tech life.
You know, the 21st century has been great. No flying cars or trips to the moon great, but there's still plenty of good tech toys to fill your life. We recommend these for the true techno junkies as they used to be called in the 20th century.

No doubt the best tech toy to get is the Mame cabinet. Mame is the ultimate arcade emulator that lets you play the classic games from, well, the 20th century. Yes, you can probably play a couple of those old games on Xbox Live Arcade, but if you want to go oldschool, buy or build your own Mame cabinet (plans are everyhere on he web) and play these games the old school way, which is standing up with very little light.

If you're one of those gamers who likes to play on their couch, then you can still experience Mame, and on that bigscreen TV of yours or whatever, using the old Xbox and the softmod. It's real easy (instructions on the web too). Then just run mame and play those old arcade and console games you remembered as a kid.

Now you might not be interested in old school gaming. But if you're one of those gamers who likes TV shows or movies, we recommend a media server. You can buy or build it yourself. This 4 TB model from Buffalo lets you hold all your DVDs, divx, and whatever else you want shared. It's great. Building your own is cheaper since all you need is a relatively old PC and SATA RAID controller. But buying is fine if you have more money than time. Why switch discs when you can keep all of it in one place. Use that time for more eating.

There's been alot of criticism regarding the Ipods, but for $350, you can get one with a whopping 160GB, which is enough to hold not only all your songs, but also your favorite TV series. It's great for when you're on one of those business trips and the cable TV is out because your company is cheap and booked you at a sleazy motel.

The last thing is the wireless house. This is great for all your stuff if you have it in several rooms. Probably not needed if you live with your parents or in an apartment. But if you have a house, you can go wireless. And yes, you can go wireless on your old Xbox or even a Mame cabinet thanks to the network drive ability of Windows and Linux. Play games anywhere, watch movies anytime, and plenty of BBQ wings and pizza, this is the good life 21st century style.
