May 31, 2008. Weird free games on the PC that should be on the 360.

There's alot of cool free games on the PC that just aren't availabe on the 360 since it's closed to development. But if Microsoft would help out, these weird, but good titles would be available on the 360.

Maple Story

The first is Maple Story, which is a free side scrolling multiplayer RPG. It's got a huge following the size of World of Warcraft. The premise is to do quests and beat bosses. There's a huge number of funny and strange bosses and plenty of ways to customize your character, which is why this game is so popular. One problem with this game is that the developers have their own servers to host their legion of fans. Another problem we have with this game is that to customize your character with clothes or even pets, you have to buy stuff for him.

Mugen

Mugen is the ultimate 2D fighting game in the world of 2D fighting games. It's based on an old abandoned Streetfighter clone engine, but has almost every character from any fighting game or anything else people find interesting. There's Family Guy, the Simpsons, superheroes, even regular people. You can find plenty of Mugen videos on Youtube and they all feature weird fights. Definitely a great game with new characters appearing all the time. It would be great on the 360, but would crush the other 2D fighting games.

Total Annihilation Remake

You probably didn't know this, but the PC has a 3D remake of Total Annihilation, which many consider to be the best RTS wargame of all time. The 3D version features 3D graphics, improved AI, and huge number of units from the original game and beyond. The 360 would truly benefit from a wargame of this quality and scale.

Free Space 2

Another great game that has become open source, FreeSpace 2 features great space combat and gorgeous graphics that still stand almost a decade after the first release. The 360 is certainly lacking in this gaming area and fans of the old Wing Commander series are still waiting for a game of that quality to appear on the 360.

Babylon

There's never been a Babylon 5 game of any quality, but the open source creators have done the TV series justice by releasing the Babylon 5 space game using the Free Space 2 engine. Yes, you fight in just about every major Babylon 5 battle in a huge variety of ships. It's truly a fan's dream. We really wished this game was on the 360 because it has more quality than most commercial games released today.

The bottom line is that there's many great games and developers out there that would be willing to develop on the 360 if Microsoft supported them. Let's hope that the 360 is more friendly towards small developers than the original Xbox. Their games would benefit everyone.
