Jul 14 , 2007. Microsoft gives gamers more at E3.

The much over-hyped and over-spend industry gaming convention is here. All three console companies gave speeches and showed products. But it was Microsoft that really stood out and made a solid impact on the gamer's pocket. We'll look at what they offered at E3 2007.

Halo 3 Xbox 360

Microsoft gave us three reasons that the 360 will be the top selling system this year. All three of the biggest selling titles in the previous generation are on the 360 at the same time. That's Halo 3, GTA4 with exclusive content, and Madden with all the extras put back in (hopefully). The PS3 is only getting two of these games.

Naruto

Microsoft and Namco are getting closer and closer together. Naruto, the top selling anime, is coming to the 360 in a game. Probably another shallow superficial fighter that's like One Piece on the PS2. But we guess this is what the Japanese like.

Xbox Elite

Gameplay footage of Assassin's Creed on the 360 was shown at E3. The game looks amazing with a great deal of potential both in terms of graphics and gameplay. Yes, this game was available on the PS3, but lost exclusivity because the developers wanted to make money, not lose it.

Viva Pinata

And yes, the pinatas are back in a party game. Seems Microsoft is set to turn these characters into some sort of Mario/Crash mascot that could lure younger players and compete with the Wii. Smart move.

Microsoft

But the smartest move by Microsoft is the announcement of a price drop for the core bundle to $199. This is an outstanding price for a true next-gen console. And we feel that the removal of the hard drive does not hurt the 360 because playing old titles is no longer needed since the 360 has a large library of next-gen titles.

Our overall feeling of the Microsoft conference is that they delivered in two key areas, which are the games, and the price drop. They're taking the PS3 premium on head to head with the release of the Xbox Elite. And the price drop puts the 360 in direct competition with the Wii. It's clear that Microsoft wants to position itself as the leader of the all the gaming consoles, not just beat Sony.
