Jul 28 , 2007. Original Xbox Versus 360 comparison.
We're going to talk about the original Xbox. Why? Two reasons. First is that the Xbox was revolutionary for its time, just like the PC Engine was ahead of its time back in the day. And also because the 360 is just not as good as the old Xbox in terms of features. But let's talk about the features and why the original Xbox is just better.

The original Xbox came with an 8GB hard drive as standard. There was no Premium or Elite. There was no upgrade. 8GB was all you get, and all you really needed. It could hold every game save for every Xbox game and still have plenty of room left for caching. And that's why developers loved the hard drive. It gave them that extra speed they needed and it saved gamers from wasting money on memory cards.

The Xbox also has Dolby 5.1 surround sound, which was the top standard for audiophiles. The 360 also supports Dolby 5.1.

The Xbox came with 10/100 ethernet as standard. This gave every Xbox owner access to Microsoft's online gaming network with updates and patches. We would have liked to see more patches for games to add new content, but I guess it wasn't until the 360 that this idea took off. And the Xbox also has HD resolution before most people even knew what HD was, and how they could get it.

And the last feature that we want to mention about the Xbox isn't really a feature, but it's very important to any console owner. And that is reliability. The Xbox was a tank. It was big, kinda ugly, but it was never a problem. Compare that to the 360 which has heating problems, update problems, and DVD problems. It's a good lesson. Style is important, but you're not buying a piece of artwork. You're buying something that you're going to use alot, and when that something doesn't work, you can't use it. If you want to buy sexy curvy electronics, consider taping a picture of Jessica Simpson to it.

Our conclusion is that the Xbox is just simply superior considering its age. It had features that no other console had during its time. It was reliable as Old Faithful. The 360 has some big shoes to fill, and although it has become more successful than the original Xbox in a very short amount of time, we doubt it can ever stand above other consoles like the original Xbox did for its time. Infact, we still play with our original Xbox, even when we could play the same game on the 360.
