Army of Two features your basic tough mercenary guys fighting terrorists. Although these guys are wearing masks. You get paid by the amount of damage you do, and there is infact, a meter that measures how much you earn. There is a plot, but you'll have to uncover it as you go along. But you've probably played enough of these games to see the plot twists and ending coming a mile away.
In the meantime, you can play one of two guys who fight in a very similar style, which is to blow as much stuff up as possible. There's a cover system where the AI terrorists will attack whoever is doing the most damage. So you'll switch between covering and the somewhat stealthy technique of running behind an enemy and hitting him while the AI provides cover. There are vehicle and rail shooter type sequences to keep things interesting.
There's a meter that measures how much attention you can gain from the enemy. You can actually customize your weapons to gain even more attention by adding gold and other useless decorations. The game features all the modern weapons you would expect and a few vehicle sequences. The AI is very good at shooting you, so you'll have to use the cover system often.
The game has good graphics, but the textures are sometimes a little muddy in dark areas. The gunfire is also a little weak in the sound department and your characters whining about how they've been shot and need help is annoying. Everything looks great when there's plenty of light. The music is the action arcade kind you're used to in these kinds of games. There are a few great action sequences.
There's team matches online where you and a partner have to race another team to complete objectives or kill each other. The single player campaign wouldn't last you very long since the cover system takes away the freedom of movement in a FPS. So when you're doing cover, you can't snipe because it doesn't draw enough attention, and when you're doing stealth, you can't blow away too much stuff. Overall, this is a rental instead of a purchase because there's just not enough diversity in the single or multiplayer to last very long.
