You know what these Battlefield games are about? Mutiplayer team deathmatch. But this one does have a single player campaign where you lead an American team of rejects who must capture a crazy soldier that's run off hunting gold because apparently, mercenaries are paid in gold bars and this soldier has just invaded a neutral country searching for these gold bars. This of course, causes all sorts of problems that must be resolved through force.
But that ridiculous story isn't why you want to play this game. The real reason is the team gameplay. There's only five classes in this game. You can be assault, recon, demolitions, specialist, or support. There's a large number of weapons that you would expect in a modern shooter and the required tank and hummer vehicles along with a patrol boat and attack helicopter. It should be noted that headshots are the only way to instantly kill an enemy with the sniper.
The AI is lacking for your squad. They just follow you around and sometimes, they don't shoot. The enemy concentrates more on you than your teammates in the single player mode. Even worse, your team members don't operate the turrets as they should. The enemy seem to prefer the stand and shoot till you die method that may be acceptable a decade ago.
The graphics look good when outside with nice environmental textures, but once inside, they aren't as good due to poor indoor textures. Most of the environment is destructible so you can make your own exit by blowing through a building. The sound is adequate for combat sounds. There doesn't seem to be any framerate issues in mutiplayer, but we weren't able to find that many people online on the 360 version.
The major problem with this game is that there's just not a lot of people playing it online, which is ridiculous for an online game like this. The reason for the lack of players is that there's only one online mode where you hunt for gold or defend gold from hunters. That's it. The single player AI is real weak and the only reward for completing single player is unlocking special weapons. Battlefield Bad Company just doesn't compare to other online games in terms of online modes. Definitely stick to COD or another game. The developers are promising new content, but considering what you're getting right now, the new content probably isn't worth it.
