Finally someone has made a "GTA" clone for the 360! You're probably asking so what? So were we, until we played the game. This is definitely different enough from GTA to warrant a buy. You play a supercop cause you've got superpowers. As a supercop, your mission is to stop gang violence. And the best way to do that is through violence like blowing up cars such as the one on the left. And you'll be working for many of these gangs just so you can get close to their boss to kill him. When you do, you "free" that part of the city from crime and then you have to do it over a few times to finish the game.
The point of the game isn't really the story. It's all about the action. And Crackdown has plenty of action. You'll fight, shoot, race, steal, and blow stuff throughout the game. And let's not forget the car flinging. We especially enjoy stockpiling cars and then causing one giant chain reaction of explosions that sends just about everything flying. Crackdown's physics engine is top notch when it comes to sending things flying. Speaking of which. although, you can't actually fly, you can jump real real high. Kinda like the Hulk. And you've got his strength too. Which is cool. So actionwise, this game packs a mean punch.
And it packs a mean punch in terms of graphics. This is definitely a next-gen title. The textures and details are great and the car detail is just what you would expect from a next gen game. The programmers really concentrated on the explosions and it shows. We are highly impressed with this title and definitely believe that building a game for the 360 only is the way to go. Soundwise, it's acceptable. But we can't say much for the soundtrack.
Crackdown has pretty interesting coop. You can do missions with your friends, but if somebody quits, everybody has to start over, which is kinda ridiculous. But in our view, that's better than no coop. And you can always do car flinging competitions or see who can cause the biggest explosions, which is fun for awhile. This game doesn't have much replay value outside car flinging. But we fill Crackdown is still worthy of a purchase.
