Grid lets you drive different cars on three continents in all sorts of racetracks. The emphasis is on the career mode where you can win races and earn the big bucks for more cars. The more cars you have, the more tracks you can race, because the tracks have car requirements. Unlike other games, you can't modify your vehicles so you have to buy new ones all the time.
Unlike other racers, your vehicles can become very damaged over time as you continue to race. So you will need to buy new vehicles as you progress. There is a timer that you can use to restart a portion of a race. You can only use it a few times depending on your difficulty settings. The controls are excellent. The cars handle great even if they aren't completely realistic, they are very fun to drive. If they get too damaged, the car can break down during a race.
The graphics are very colorful with plenty of details on the track and the car. The textures are good, but not up to Forza standards. The car damage is great. There are no weather effects, but plenty of great lighting. The soundtrack is the lackluster arcade type. The game concentrates on providing the sweet hum of your engine and the sound of cars crashing into each other.
There's an online mode for up to 12 players. You can race all the racetracks in the the single player mode or go at each other in the demolition derby. Grid is a great game for most gamers. If you're a serious racing fan, stick with Forza. The physics will have you annoyed. Crash fans can find better in Burnout. Grid provides a good balance between the two extremes.
